Lotus Plaza - Spooky Action at a Distance

(less certainly) The Jesus and Mary Chain have received, the genre has remained disappointingly shallow for at least the past 15 years. And yet, if there’s a fine line between shoegaze and dream pop, Lotus Plaza — a.k.a. Lockett Pundt a.k.a. guitarist for Deerhunter — certainly straddled it with the simultaneously hypnotic and foot-tappingly worthwhile album The Floodlight Collective, released back in March 2009. To be sure, a full-blown resurgence of the genre seems unlikely, considering kids these days are generally preoccupied with unambiguous positivity, gangsta-ness, or music suitable for da club, but Mr. Pundt appears keen on maintaining his style regardless. Case in point: on April 2, Pundt will release his second LP as Lotus Plaza, Spooky Action at a Distance, courtesy of Kranky.

I personally wouldn’t expect a drastic change in style from his previous album, but who can say for sure? Those shoegazers are an emotional bunch.

Para la atención que ha recibido el shoegaze tradicional con Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, y un poco menos con Jesús & Mary Chain, el género se ha mantenido decepcionantemente poco profundo por lo menos durante los últimos 15 años. Sin embargo, si hay una línea muy fina entre shoegaze y dream pop, Lotus Plaza - alias Lockett Pundt / alias guitarrista de Deerhunter - se sentó a horcajadas con su álbum al mismo tiempo hipnótico y "foot-tappingly", que bién vale la pena, The Floodlight Collective, lanzado en marzo de 2009. Sin duda, un resurgimiento en toda regla del género parece poco probable, teniendo en cuenta que los niños en estos días están por lo general preocupados por una ambigüa positividad, gangsters, y música pensada "for da´club", pero el señor Pundt parece mostrar mucho interés en mantener su estilo desatento. Caso en cuestión: el 2 de abril, Pundt lanzará su segundo LP como Lotus Plaza, Spooky Action at a Distance, por cortesía de Kranky.

Yo personalmente no esperaría un cambio drástico en el estilo de su anterior álbum, pero ¿quién puede decirlo con seguridad? Estos shoegazers son muy emocionales. --Tiny Mix Tapes
